Care and Feeding of Your Archive Utility Program Instuctions for use: 1)Extract The extract function extracts members from an archive. Click on the button marked Extract. Select the drive and then use the Item Selector to select the Archive to be extracted from. Next select the drive you want the files to go to. Using the item selector select the folder you want the files in. Hit return or click on OKAY. If you just wanted to extract the .prg files, enter on the item selector "*.prg". Any standard wild card selection will work if no program is specified then the program applies a "*.*" wild card to the archive. a) If you set the flag "Folder" to "On", the files will be placed in a folder with the name of the archive. b) If you set the flag "Packit" to "On", and the archive contains archives, the files will be place in folders with the names of the archive. Note: The flag "Folder" can also be set if you wanted the files to be unpacked into a folder with the name of the archive 2)Test Arc The test archive function tests the integrity of the files in the archive, to ensure that they have been arced correctly. Note: As allways wild cards do apply here. 3)Convert The convert function allowes you to convert files to newer packing methods without having to dearc and then rearc the files. Note: Wild cards apply. 4)List Lists the contents of the Archive. Note: Wild cards apply. a)Verbose gives a full listing. b)Short gives a shorter listing. 5)Archive The archive function packs files into an archive. First click on "Archive", select the drive, then using the item selector, pick the archive. In the case of a new archive type in the name of the archive to be created, adding the ".ARC" extender. Next select the drive and then using the item selector, pick the files to be included in the archive. Note: Wild cards apply. If just "OKAY" is clicked on the program applies a "*.*" wild card to the archive, allowing you to archive the contents of a folder or drive. a) Add file just adds files to the archive b) Update replaces files with files of the same name. c) Move puts files into the archive and deletes the orginal file. d) Freshen only adds a file if it is newer than the file already in the archive. e)Crunch uses the method Crunch as the default method. f)Squash uses the newer method Squash as the default method. Squash uses a larger hash table for compression and for some files may actually produce smaller files. e)Packit takes the contents of a folder or drive and compress the subdirectories into their own seperate archives. Very usefull for backing up the the contents of a hard drive. Archives made with the packit flag can be uncompressed using the Extract function and setting the packit flag.
