There are a few ways you can run SoftwareVAULT. You can run it from either the CD-ROM directly or from your hard drive, depending on your preferences. Read below to learn your options. 2. The SoftwareVAULT Librarian is available in both a DOS version (SVL.EXE) and a Windows version (SVLWIN.EXE). Instructions on how to use these are included below. 3. BBS sysops can use the enclosed ROMDOOR program which has been customized for SoftwareVAULT to install and use this CD-ROM on their BBS. 4. This product is a collection of "shareware" programs and resources. Please contact the respective authors of each program to register your copy and to obtain specific technical support for any program. 5. American Databankers will offer technical support for the SoftwareVAULT Librarian program, but is not able to offer help with the individual shareware programs included on this disc. Enjoy this great library of software and let us know how we can better serve your needs and interests in future products! ______________________________________________________________________ USING YOUR SOFTWAREVAULT COLLECTION ______________________________________________________________________ Welcome to SoftwareVAULT, a CD-ROM packed with thousands of programs and resources to meet your every need. To guide you through this enormous collection, this disc comes equipped with a program titled "Librarian". Librarian is a program that will... 1) Search the disc by category or subject matter for programs and resources that interest you. 2) Install any file from the SoftwareVAULT disc to your hard drive. (This will allow you to run the file on your PC) 3) Print out a directory of the files on the disc. (This feature is available only with the DOS version of the Librarian.) 4) Place the files directory on a BBS. (Only with the DOS version) When you run the Librarian several headings will appear at the top of your screen. Each of these headings allows you to perform a different function. Here's what each heading allows you to do... FILE: Under the FILE heading you can either CHANGE CD ROM or EXIT. Selecting CHANGE CD ROM will allow you to use the Librarian to search other SoftwareVAULT Collections you own besides the one that you're currently using. If you own other SoftwareVAULT collections, you can use this latest version of the Librarian with them. If you'd like to order the other SoftwareVAULT Collections, call American Databankers at 1-800-775-4232 for a dealer near you. Selecting EXIT will allow you to leave the SoftwareVAULT Librarian and return to either DOS or Windows. CONTENTS: Under the CONTENTS heading you can view the list of files included on the collection and copy the files that interest you to your hard drive for use. To view the files list for a specific category select EXAMINE/TRANSFER FILES. After you choose a category to explore, you can select files to view or copy. (The DOS version of Librarian will allow you to copy more than one file at a time.) Copying a file to your hard drive will allow you to run it on your PC. Also under the CONTENTS heading, you'll find some STATISTICS about the size of the collection and its various categories, along with a HOT HITS LIST of the greatest, most recent files on this collection. While viewing the hot hits list on the DOS version, you have the option to transfer a HOT HIT to your PC's hard drive for use. SEARCH: You can search your SoftwareVAULT disc for specific topics that interest you. These searches can be performed either by FILENAME or by TEXT. To search by file name, select FILENAME and type in the file name of the application you want to find. Selecting TEXT will allow you to do a keyword search by subject matter and to find files related to a particular topic that interests you. HELP: Selecting HELP will provide you will a series of info files that explain what SoftwareVAULT is all about. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * YOUR OPTIONS ON HOW TO INSTALL & RUN SOFTWAREVAULT * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The rich contents of this SoftwareVAULT CD-ROM are accessed by running the program called the SoftwareVAULT Librarian, which is available on the CD-ROM in both a DOS version (SVL) and a Windows version (SVLWIN). Though you can easily run the Librarian directly from the CD-ROM, you may prefer to run it from your hard drive. Running the Librarian from your hard drive may result in better overall performance and doing so allows you to save user-specific configuration data for use in subsequent sessions. Important notes regarding the SoftwareVAULT Librarian ----------------------------------------------------- You will need at least 8.5 MB of free disk space to install the SoftwareVAULT Librarian and its data files to your hard disk. The DOS version of the Librarian includes certain additional features not included in this version of the Windows Librarian. Feel free to call us regarding future upgrades to the Windows Librarian. There is a multimedia graphics and sound demo of the SoftwareVAULT included on the root directory of the CD-ROM. Just type DEMO to watch it run. INSTRUCTIONS ON RUNNING SOFTWAREVAULT Following are instructions on how to run the SoftwareVAULT Librarian... ... from the CD-ROM in DOS ... from your hard drive in DOS ... from the CD-ROM in Windows ... from your hard drive in Windows How to run the SoftwareVAULT Librarian from the CD-ROM in DOS: ============================================================== 1. Log on to the CD-ROM using your CD-ROM's drive letter. e.g., from the DOS prompt type E: followed by the key. 2. From the DOS prompt, type SVL . How to run the SoftwareVAULT Librarian from your hard drive in DOS: =================================================================== 1. Log on to the CD-ROM as directed above. 2. From the DOS prompt, type INSTALL . 3. Follow the instructions given by the INSTALL program. 4. Once the SoftwareVAULT Librarian files have been installed on your hard drive, you can run it by logging to the specified hard drive directory and typing SVL . How to run the SoftwareVAULT Librarian from the CD-ROM in Windows: ================================================================== 1. Run Windows as instructed in the Windows User's Guide. 2. From the Program Manager, select the Run... option in the File menu. 3. Using the Browse function, select the CD-ROM drive and the program on the CD-ROM titled SVLWIN.EXE in the SVL subdirectory. 4. To make SVLWIN more readily useable from Windows, select New from the File menu, and create a New Program Item for SVLWIN. (Refer to your Windows User's Guide for details on how to perform this operation.)
