November 1996 ================================================================ Title : Dark 0.4 beta deathmatch maps for Quake Filename : Dark04b.zip Author : Ray Email Address : ray@utctu8.ct.utwente.nl Description : Two beta deathmatch maps from my Dark episode for Quake(tm). 'Dark Base'(1.4 MB): base type level for 4-5 players 'Dark Halls'(0.9 MB): metal type (a la DM2) for 3-4 players This thing replaces 'darkhall.zip', which was screwed up anyway. Additional Credits to : - Roy & Painless for the beta deathmatches - id for letting me redistribute their textures - Chris Carollo and Trey Harrison for Quest ================================================================ * Play Information * Single Player : Yes. DarkBase is the entrance level. But despite the cheap tricks I used to make things interesting for single player, they remain dedicated deathmatch maps. If you just want to check them out for tonight's deathmatch, be sure to set the 'deathmatch' variable to 1 at the console. Cooperative : Yes, untested. Deathmatch : Yes, damnit, yes! Difficulty Settings : Yes New Sounds : No New Graphics : Yes New Music : No Demos Supplied : Not this time. This thing is big enough as it is. * Construction * Base : New levels from scratch Editor(s) used : vi, Quest beta 1.092 Known Bugs : None. Build Time : 32 hours per map so far. Texture Wads used : mostly quake101.wad and base.wad Compile machine : p166 / 48MB QBSP Time : minutes (lots of disk swapping) Light (-extra) Time : minutes Full VIS Time : a few more minutes * Changes * Dark Base 0.3 --> 0.9 : Single player stuff, removed teleporter in single player mode Better 'deathmatch exit obstacle' Different intermission camera Texture alignment again Dark Halls 1.01 --> 1.02: Single player stuff: exit, optional buttons Changed boring platforms to gratings * How to use this map (like you don't know this) * - Copy "dark*.bsp" to "id1\maps\" (create the "maps" directory if necessary). - Run Quake - Bring up the console - Type "map darkbase" (without the quotes) from the console. * Other Info * These are the maps from the Dark episode that I think are already good enough to be released. I'm working on all maps simultaneously, so I don't know which one will come next. Besides, I have a life, too... * Copyright / Permissions * I don't care what you do with the files in this zip archive, as long as you do not separate them and leave them intact. The guys at id software probably DO mind. Read the docs that come with Quake. Standard disclaimer: I will not be held responsible for any damage to your hardware, software, brain or mother-in-law, caused by using these files. Do not operate heavy machinery while playing these maps.
