January 5, 1997 ================================================================ Title : DungeonWorld Lava Pits Filename : DWLP10.BSP Author : Andy Knies Email Address : aknies@midohio.net Alias : ApocalypsE Description : This is the first release of my first complete level for Quake. The DungeonWorld Lava Pits is a level designed from scratch for multiplayer deathmatches only. The Lava Pits are a largely open deathmatch arena and are best experienced over a LAN. Coming Soon : Keep an eye out for my next level, the DungeonWorld Chapel. This is already well under way and will be released soon. I plan to release a deathmatch and CTF version of this next map. Additional Credits to : ID Software-Thanks for creating another GREAT game and letting us distribute custom levels for it! This level is a derivative work of ID software's Quake. : Ben Morris/WorldCraft-I used WorldCraft exclusively to create this map. : All the people at rec.games.computer.quake.editing that answered my questions about editing. Without them, I would have never figured out misc_fireballs and trigger_teleports. : Tom Grandgent aka Woofer for QBSP256C-His modification of ID's QBSP made it possible for me to compile this map. : Jim Lowell/Thred-I used his template.txt as the basis for this file. : My woman-Not only did she put up with me being in front of a computer 24x7, she was instrumental in playtesting the level. ================================================================ * Play Information * Single Player : No Cooperative : No Deathmatch : Yes Deathmatch Starts : 16 Difficulty Settings : No New Sounds : No New Graphics : No New Music : No Demos Replaced : None * Construction * Base : New level from scratch Editor(s) used : WorldCraft, Notepad, Edit Known Bugs : This level contains a few large open areas in which some textures will "grey out". This is caused by having more than 800 surfaces visible at any given time. The simple solution is to increase the maximum number of surfaces that Quake will display. To do this, type r_maxsurfs 1100 at the console before starting the level. There is no noticeable loss in performance when doing this. Build Time : I started this map on October 27, 1996 and worked on it a few hours a week until the present time. I had a major setback and lost my work halfway through. That partially explains why it took so long to complete. As far as total hours, I spent more time than I care to mention on this map. A lot of that time was just learning to use WorldCraft. Texture Wad used : Quake101.wad Compile machine : iP200 w/ 512kb L2 cache and 32mb EDO ram QBSP Time : 3min. 27sec. Light Time : 3min. 15sec. VIS (-level 1) Time : 7hrs. 16min. 42sec. Brushes : 708 Entities : 213 ================================================================ * Other Info * I plan to make one more revision to this map after it is fully playtested. I am hosting a LAN competition January 11th where we will fully test this level. I will subsequently make any adjustments that I deem necessary. If you are interested in receiving the updated map or have any suggestions for future revisions, please feel free to e-mail me at aknies@midohio.net ================================================================ * Copyright / Permissions * Authors MAY NOT use this level as a base to build additional levels.
