Kaiserappartements (Imperial Apartments)
Discover how the Habsburgs truly lived by exploring these opulent imperial apartments. Occupying parts of the Chancellery Wing and the Amalientrakt, these lavish rooms are filled with tapestries and luxurious furniture. The extravagance is especially evident in the dining room, where the empty chairs face a formal table laid out for 20 guests of the court. Emperor Franz Josef and his wife, Elizabeth of Bavaria, spent much of their time here. Elizabeth, who was perhaps ahead of her time, kept a wooden gymnasium in her quarters. Although only German-language guided tours are offered, English-speaking independent tour guides are usually stationed around the entrance.
