Hotel Ambassador

Kärntnerstr. 22
A11 Vienna
Austria

Description
Mark Twain and Theodore Roosevelt once stayed here, and even today it isn't unheard of for the management to roll out a real red carpet as a welcome for a royal guest. All the romance of Old Vienna comes to life at this venerable establishment (once a warehouse for wheat). Located right on the square facing the Donner Fountain, the hotel enjoys a prime position between the State Opera and Stephansdom (St. Stephen's Cathedral). Inside, the plush turn-of-the-century decor vibrates with red, from the silk wall coverings to the upholstered furnishings to the bedspreads in the rooms. Chandeliers add to the glittering allure. There are 106 rooms and one suite, all with period furnishings, tile or marble bath, hair dryer, toiletries; satellite TV furnished on request; the quieter rooms face Neuer Markt. Lehar restaurant serves Austrian and international cuisine; stunning bar. Renovated in 1990, the hotel is one of the most sumptuous in Vienna.
