Palazzo Venezia and Museum

The Palazzo Venezia was the first major Renaissance building in Rome, finished in 1455. The palazzo has had a checkered career: Once a papal residence, it was later the home base of Benito Mussolini (he declared war on France and the United States from the balcony as his followers bellowed below). The palace is now a decorative arts museum containing a good collection of early Renaissance paintings, wooden sculpture, chests, and tapestries.
