Murano
This island is primarily known for the products of its glass factory, which makes for an intriguing visit (when you arrive at Murano, disembark at Colonna, the first vaporetto stop). There's the Museo Vetrario (Glass Museum) on the main canal (open in high season 9 AM–7 PM daily except Wednesday and Sunday, and in winter 10 AM–4 PM). If you still have time, visit the 12th-century Basilica of Santi Maria e Donato, across from the museum. To reach Murano, take vaporetto No. 5 from riva degli Schiavoni, near piazzetta San Marco.
