Palladian Villas

Tour the summer homes of 16th-century Venetians on the Brenta Canal between Padua and Venice by boat, called the Burchiello loop, with stops at the more grandiose palazzos, including the Palazzo Pisano at Stra, with its legendary frescoes. Lunch is included on the tour, which lasts all day. The little vessel plies the Brenta Canal from Padova to Venice (and reverse) 25 March–27 October. Short tours are also available, if you prefer only glimpses; special cruises make short tours three times a week. For arrangements, contact CIT (Piazza S. Marco 4850, Tel. 528 5480), open 8 AM-6 PM Monday through Saturday. For more leisurely sightseeing, the vaporetti depart from the Fondamenta Nuove (end of rio dei Gesuiti). These casual, point-to-point voyages should be among the most enchanting of your Venetian byway and seaway explorations.
