Campanile di San Marco

The tall, majestic Campanile began as a lighthouse and was not built up to its 90-meter (300-foot) height until the 16th century. That structure lasted about 300 years, collapsed, and was reconstructed in 1912. An elevator was installed to enable visitors to have a matchless view of Venice from the tower heights.
