San Sebastiano, Venice


	San Sebastiano Páolo Veronese took refuge in this church in 1555, after fleeing Verona (where he apparently had killed someone). He then went on to cover almost every surface of the church—even the organ cover—with frescoes and paintings, making this one of the most harmonious and complete church interiors in Venice. The best of his works are on the high altar and church ceiling (the Triumph of Mordecai is a sumptuous trompe l'oeil). To get a good look, climb into the nuns' choir.
