Money Matters(Overview)

There's a bank and exchange in the train station, but as usual with these things, the rates are poor here. Most banks have branches in the area between San Marco and the Rialto. Bank hours in Venice are usually Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM-1 PM and 3-4 PM.

Transportation(Overview)

To ride the water buses in Venice, you should buy your ticket before boarding, either from the ACTV office in piazza Roma, or from various booths in front of vaporetto stops. You can buy a ticket from the conductor, but you pay a surcharge. You must validate your ticket before boarding. The penalty for riding the vaporetti without a valid ticket is a stiff 30,000 lire (US$20). A single ticket usually costs 2,200 lire ($1.50); it's more to go to the outer islands. You also can buy a ticket good for 24 hours, or a three-day pass.
