WARCRAFT II MAP NAME: CHESS.PUD TYPE: FOREST GAME: NETWORK ATTACK: AIR PLAYERS: 2-8 SIZE: 128 x 128 VERSION: 1.20p CREATED: WINDOWS 95 (might work in any WarCraft II) CREATOR: Wayne Stewart (stu2@erinet.com) DESCRIPTION: The Chess.Pud map is an excellent network map for 2-8 players. the best scenerio would be to play 4 players using the map default for the starting locations and not using Random locations. This way each player will start in one of the 4 corners of the map. If you do not have 4 players then allow the computer to fill in enough slots to make 4 players just to make it interesting. Chess.Pud places all players on an even keel so to speak. The map is made up of 30 grids of land. There are 6 grids across (west to east) and 5 grids down (north to south). Each of the grids is completely unique except for the 8 different grids where players start. These grids all have a wall surrounding them and 1 gold mine. ALL grids are surrounded by a tree line so in order to get to another grid to open your territory for expansion you will have to harvest the trees at the opening to your wall. This is also true when using land assaults against opponents. The trees become dense near the openings of grids where players start the game. This makes ground assaults very difficult unless your enemies are near by. The grids where players do not appear all have different features. Some are huge lakes with islands of gold mines or oil spots while some have Circles Of Power and Runestones. All are surrouned by tree lines and some are even surrounded by walls or cliffs. That makes this game easier by air which means each player will have to advance to the point where they can build Gryphon Rooks or Dragon Caves. This places players on an even keel because there is not enough room in the starting grid to build all the necessary buildings to get to these air assault creations so expansion through the other grids is necessary. Computer players should be ganged up on by 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 ratios because they have discinct non-player characters which they may be able to utilize in the middle of the map as well as Dark Portals through out the grid. All-in-all it brings Chess to a whole new level.
