This joke application will open or close the CD-ROM drive then launch a specified program. This will puzzle most users. Great joke to change a shortcut to a commonly used application or add it to their Startup Menu. Works with most standard Windows compatible CD-ROM drives. Can you imagine how puzzled you would be if every time you opened Internet Explorer you CD-ROM drived opened as well? You could do that to your friends.

Usage

Command Line

Common Usages:

Change a user's shortcut from a commonly used application to Open/Close CD. Example
Use WinStartup (live link) to setup that Open/Close CD execute every time the computer is turned on
Use Program Launcher (live link) to launch Open/Close CD every 10 seconds
Run the program while the user is away from the computer
Rename the file to "clickme.exe", so that a curious person will run the program
Send the program to someone via email (be sure to follow up the email with this document)

Command Line:

To use the command line options do this
- Open_CD will take 1, 2 or NO command line parameters.
- C:\JOKE\OPEN_CD.EXE {Program path} {Open/Close CD}
  - Progam Path = Path to executeable program you want to launch
  - Open/Close = Option whether to open or close CD. 0 - OPEN and 1 - CLOSE
If NO command line options are present. The program will OPEN the CD-ROM drive.

How Do I:

Create a Windows shortcut?
- Right-click on the program you want to create a shortcut for
- Select 'Create Shortcut' from the popup menu
- This will create a shortcut to the program at the same directory level. (See below for editing a shortcut)
Edit a shortcut?
- Select/Highlight a Windows shortcut
- Right-click on the shortcut
- Select 'Properties' from the popup menu
- Click on the 'Shortcut' tab
- Modify the 'Target' field with the drive letter and path to this program name. (Ex. C:\JOKES\{program name}.EXE )
Edit/Add command line options?
- Same as above except...
- Modify the end of the 'Target' field and add your command line options

I know have a Tray Icon version, which is a very handy utility that sits in your Windows system tray for easy access to open and close your CD-ROM. Great for those people who have their CD-ROM's in hard to reach places.
There is a Close CD version, which is exactly like this, but the default option is to close the CD-ROM.
