W H A T I S L O T T O ? This following section will describe what a "lotto" type game is, and what it is not. There are many games where you pick from 3 to 4 numbers and order is important. Each number can be between 0 and 9, inclusive. These games are "permutation" based. These games are called PICK-4, PICK-3, CASH-3, DAILY-3, and many other names. THEY ARE NOT LOTTOS. A "LOTTO" is a combination based game. Combination, means the order of the winning numbers is not important. The lowest number in all games is 1, and the highest number varies from game to game. Almost all lottos have 5 or 6 numbers which are drawn one at a time from the total group of numbers that are used. A games descriptor can be formed by combining the number of numbers drawn with the highest allowed number. For example, 6/49, 5/39, 7/54. A few states use a bonus number. Some call it a supplemental number. Some call it an alternate number. This "bonus" number is used to determine a consolation winner, when there is not jackpot winner. This prize is usually a 1st or 2nd place prize, and it not like other drawn numbers which can produce 3-matches, or 4-matches.
