ATTILA THE HUN (c.406-453AD) king of the Huns an asiatic nomad people, called "The scourge of God" He embarked on a career of vast conquests reaching from the Rhine to Persia. He invaded Gaul in 451AD but was defeated at the Battle of Chalons by the combined armies of the Romans & Visigoths. In 452 he entered Italy but was persuaded to leave by the intervention of Pope Leo I.He died on his wedding nigh to Ildico probably from a brain haemorrage.
