THE CELTS
                              
The name given by Greek and Roman writers to a people who originated on
the Danube and in Lower Germany. They built the La Tene culture in France
and were skilled in the  working of iron. They overan France,Spain,Portugal,
North Italy and sacked Rome in the year 390BC. They also overan Greece and
the British isles. They were never one united empire, but where composed
of numerous autonomous tribes. They were a fair tall people, the forerunners
to the later Teutonic/Germanic tribes.
