CLEOPATRA (68 - 30BC) Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt was famous for her beauty. She ascended the throne of Egypt in 51BC. In 49BC, Julius Caesar arrived in Egypt and she became his mistress bearing him a son, Caesarion, and retunred with him to Rome. She went back to Egypt after Caesar's murder and resumed her role as queen. In 41BC she met Mark Anthony and bore him 3 sons. In 32BC civil war broke out between Octavian(adopted nephew of Caesar) and Mark Anthony and Octavian defeated him at the crucial naval battle of Actium. Fleeing back to Egypt, Anthony and Cleopatra committed suicide leaving Octavian sole ruler of the Roman world.
