GALLIPOLI EXPEDITION

In the First World War an unsuccesful campaign instigated by Winston
Churchill was undertaken from Feb 1915 to Jan 1916 to land troops in the
Dardanelles in European Turkey. The plan was a failure and the Allied troops
were withdrwan after suffering many casualties.
