Senegal is a former French
colony in West Africa that
extends from the most western
point in Africa, Cape Verde,
to the border with Mali.
Senegal is mostly low-lying
savanna apart from the Fouta
Djallon mountains in the
south. The climate is
tropical. Almost 80% of the
labour force work in
agriculture, growing
groundnuts and cotton for
export, and millet, maize,
rice and sorghum as
subsistence crops.
