ProjectX Slashdot

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: ProjectX Slashdot 1.1

Format: Win OS

Description: Slashdot is a little utility for viewing slashdot.org headlines via easily accessable and controllable dialog window menus. Like the last version, this is very well done addon. The documentation, which consists of an readme file, is quite complete and also gives a short description on what slashdot.org (the website) is. The script itself is easily accessable via popups and I find the dialog windows to be very clean and easy to understand. The addon also has its own 'help page' on the web. The script also contains proxy support if you need it and allows you to go through the available headlines through <> buttons in the dialog. The coding is also very well done. It displays the use of custom identifiers, local aliases, use of wildcards to unset variables, etc. The author even seperated all his events into different sections which makes the code very easy to understand and to follow. While the author could have used 'return' instead of 'halt' in some aliases and multiple lines instead of all the

ProjectX TitleX

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: ProjectX TitleX 1.67

Format: Win OS

Description: A highly-configurable script addon that puts in some stats in the mIRC titlebar. The stats can be given an order of preference and may be disabled. Away, lag, time, date, chan # and server:port make up the different stats. The spacers and outside border can be changed and you can even add your own. Documentation is quite extensive and gives a good insight into the different features available, even though the readme text file was not updated and still says the version number is 1.66. If that is not enough, there is further help on the ProjectX site at www.projectx.mx.dk. The script is quite easy to use though, and I doubt that any problems should arise. The addon is efficient and bug-free as far as I tested. However I would have prefered the script to update any changes immediately, not on the next refresh. Also, I feel there should be an option to change the refresh time. In the Setup tab, the author made use of check boxes to make them act as radio buttons; the reason why he didn't use radio

ProjectX Trojan Scanner

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: ProjectX Trojan Scanner 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon with dialog interface that allows you to scan the ports of everyone that joins it for trojan/virii. Please read review for important information. It has numerous options, such as giving you the choice of what virii to scan for (and in consequence, which ports), the connection speed that you are on so that it won't use too many sockets at one time, etc. As all the ProjectX scripts, it has a fairly detailed readme file. However, since this one is rather specific, I would have liked to see a little bit more information about what the addon actually *does* and for what virii/trojans it scans for in the documentation. A few URLs of websites that deal and give more information about trojans and virii would have also been nice. The addon itself is pretty easy to use. All the dialogs are pretty clean and easy to understand. It has a list of channels that you can chose to set and to decide whether to scan those users on Join or not. An option where you can chose to post the infections to a certai

Protector

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: Protector 1.2

Format: Win OS

Description: FRENCH addon script intended for personal protection. That includes nuke detection, flood protection (ctcps, actions, notices, text) and various odds and ends (spam, invites). It also has the option of logging attacks against you and has a ignore list. The author is, as usual, quite brief and to the point in his readme file. He also provides information on what the addon works with (the various anti-virus programs). Once installed, you might run into an error of "* /dialog: 'debut_protector' error loading icon 'protector\demarrage.bmp' (line 1246, protectorv12.mrc)", but don't worry about it ... It does not appear to affect the functionality of the script. The dialogs are clean and easy to understand. There are various options to chose for most types of protections: Max, Normal (configurable) and Disactivated. The author gets bonus points for documentation since he went to pains to explain what every section of the script does and even how ctcp floods/nukes/etc. work. The addon has various fun

QCheck

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: QCheck

Format: Win OS

Description: An addon for people who use mIRC to meet for setting up online games. The script automatically sets a user away with the IP address and description of the game they are playing. The script is fairly simple and not overly robust, it allows the user to advertise their game at various intervals, specify a different nickname while away and an option to automatically notify the user of updates to the script. The coding of the script was very well done, making use of appropriate variable names, and keeps a good balance between redundant code and an excess of aliases. The only strong con is how many people will find use for this, and that many other auto away addons could more or less be made to perform similarly.
